A YOUNG Thorne angler has achieved top spot in Britain in his sport.
Lewis Batley (13) of Willow Grove has been fishing since he was five-years-old and at the weekend caught a 22.5lb pike making him Junior British Champion for the under 18s.

Saturday's match also saw him move into tenth spot overall in the country in the open age category.

Lewis, who attends Trinity Academy was competing in the British Junior Pike Championship at Peterborough which involved 308 young anglers.

Mum Tanya told the Gazette: "He thinks of nothing else but fishing. He is not a member of a club but goes off with his dad river fishing in Nottinghamshire mostly."

Lewis was presented with his trophy and a £150 tackle voucher by Mick Brown, the current top pike fisherman.
