FIRE service uniforms were stolen by vehicle thieves in Thorne and police are concerned they could be used by conmen posing as firefighters.
A red van was stolen from behind Thorne Fire Station on Plantation Road on Wednesday July 23. The vehicle, which belonged to a member of staff was recovered on Station Road in Keadby on Sunday July 27.

Items of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue uniform are missing from the van, including two white fire service shirts with the shield emblem on the arm and two black fire service t-shirts also displaying the shield emblem.

Police are concerned the uniform may be used by people posing as firefighters, and would urge people to always double check identity badges.

All fire service staff who perform home fire safety checks carry identity badges. If in doubt, the resident can call South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue on 0114 272 7202 or their local fire station.

Anyone with information is urged to call Doncaster Crime Management Unit on 01302 385135 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
