GLORIOUS sunshine ensured this year's Thorne Summer Festival drew in the crowds over both days.
The weekend of activities was opened by special guest, Doncaster Rover director of football, Mickey Walker which paved the way for two days of family fun.

The event, which was supported by Thorne-Moorends Town Council, began with a parade from Thorne Co-op on the Saturday morning before the festivities began at the Memorial Park.

A spokesman for the festival committee told the Gazette: "The sun shone for the Thorne Summer Festival bringing crowds into the colourful park at Thorne for the two days.

"On the Saturday, the parade was led by two vintage cars - one of which was over 115 years old - bringing our festival queen Sophie Wyngate and her two attendants, and our mayor Carol Williams, with a number of organisations behind with our popular Armthorpe Brass Band.

"There was a variety of entertainment for young and old alike over the two days, from our Thorne Male Voice Choir to the young rock band Keta-Kim and Recruitment 46."

Other attractions included Irish dancers, Moorends Street Dancers plus many other schools of dance, local singer Kev, circus workshops, magic, Northern Image, the chance to play on the library bus, face painting, have-a-go-art and a host more.

The fancy dress competition was judged by mayor, Councillor Mrs Carol Williams, and Roy Bolland and outright winner was Courtney Dixon.

The spokesman added: "On behalf of the committee I would like to thank everyone who helped make the weekend a success, people that provided the entertainment, helped with the organising and especially to the people of Thorne and Moorends."
